SA electricity sockets are different when compared to many other parts of the world (3-round pin) and therefor socket adapters (travel adapters) are required by the majority of visitors to South Africa these adapters can be purchased at most airports, travel shops and may also be purchased on arrival in South Africa. Most appliance chargers are equipped to handle voltages ranging from 100V to 230V however if not, a step-down travel adapter would be required (i.e. for USA appliances)
Banking:
- Travellers are advised to travel with currency in the form of travellers cheque, Euros, US $, GBP Pound. Major credit cards are also accepted at the majority of hotels and businesses. It is advisable however to have local currency available for purchases at smaller business outlets. Tipping (gratuity) is an accepted practice and in general, a tip is calculated at 10% of the billed amount. Please note that should you be using credit cards that your bank is notified of your travel plans and the duration of your stay to avoid any unnecessary complications.
Climate, Time and Language
- The seasons in South Africa are the direct opposite to those in Europe. i.e. Winter from May to September. During winter, the temperatures drop in the evenings and in some cases below 0 degrees Centigrade. During the day temperatures can reach 22 degrees Centigrade on the Highveld.
- In the European summer months there is no time difference between Central Europe and South Africa however during the Central European Winter months, South Africa runs one hour ahead. South Africa does not support daylight saving.
- South Africa has 11 official languages however English is understood and used throughout. The road network signage is in English.
Hunting Trophies
- Hunt Africa Connect does not involve itself in Taxidermy and therefore the hunter has the choice of Taxidermist and can decide on having capes and mounts finished in South Africa or prepared "raw" and shipped to the Hunter with the necessary documentation.
